Hi I’m Michelle, the creator of Sweet Coast Cupcakes!
Originally from Canada, now raising my young family on the beautiful Surf Coast in Victoria. After dreaming of opening a small cupcake business for over a decade and an even longer standing love affair with baking, in August 2020 Sweet Coast Cupcakes was born. Turns out a global pandemic was just the push I needed to stop dreaming and start doing!
My other love is travel. I left home seeking adventure at 19 and never looked back! This travel bug would later develop into a career within the travel industry, and what I was up to prior to starting Sweet Coast Cupcakes. I just love the thrill and excitement of travelling to new places and meeting new people and experiencing different cultures, landscapes and (most importantly) the food!
Since beginning my small business, I have discovered that my absolute passion lies here. I am loving the ride of running my own business so far. The sense of community, the ups and downs, learning, creating, relationships, and joy spreading. Nothing is more motivating than knowing your product is producing smiles and warm fuzzies for others. Whether the cupcakes are ordered as a treat for yourself, or to celebrate a special occasion, or simply to let someone know you are thinking of them, for me, this is all the inspiration needed to keep on making life a little sweeter.
About the cupcakes!
With an emphasis on artisan and locally sourced, I truly believe our unique little cupcakes are well set apart from the rest when it comes to flavour and fun!
So much value is placed in hand crafting and using fresh local produce. Wherever possible we home make from scratch – lemon curd, caramel, fresh doughnuts, cake, buttercreams… the list goes on. During the citrus season, the lemons used for our lemon meringue cupcakes don’t go much further than some local Surf Coast lemon trees often from a friend or community member’s garden. In the summertime we are lucky enough to have Surf Coast Strawberry Fields fuelling our Strawberry Shortcake cupcakes. Pennyroyal raspberry preserves from the Otway’s are nestled into the heart of our White Chocolate Raspberry cupcakes.
We use Lard Ass Butter which is produced in Ocean Grove on the Bellarine. This beautifully rich in flavour, smooth cultured butter is the key ingredient in all our buttercream frostings.
As you can imagine, we go through heaps of eggs, so high quality, high welfare eggs were a must. We were thrilled to find Chooks at the Rooke with a beautiful free-range farm based out of Colac, Victoria. Chooks at the Rooke have an infectious passion for high quality and sustainable produce. These eggs are top shelf, not to mention they were awarded gold medallists for their sustainability efforts raising the brothers of the egg layers.
To top it all off, we use 100% recycled material packaging for our cupcakes. The widely used plastic viewing window was purposely omitted when creating our branded boxes to help reduce our environmental impact.
